She Feels the Loss On Me

Drops (9).jpg

She feels the loss on me again, beneath
this bright clear sky, I have brought winter though
here to her. My eyes full of the safe hope
that all the hard way here, through the long years

I have imagined – using the dark sea
for cover. The freedom of this place I knew
and wanted all the evenings of waiting
lean roads, of trying to resist the call

Of my own home, where my feet crunched the gravel
drive, by the broken swing, where a car that drove
past, turned. My last words then were of the sun

Upon my face, and theirs, of hope. The tender draw
of her loving hand, beneath this bright clear sky,
to her. She feels the loss on me again.
