Large blue mouths
Try swallowing the boat
As it lingers on the edge of its doom.
Its sturdy, humble timbers
Offer a bare, harsh refuge
As it rides precariously on the wave.
The same things that condemn us
Keep us afloat.
As a blazing sun of hope
Eases from the horizon,
We arrive in peaceful waters
And run free on the soft green grass.
As I stood on the rubble I waved,
Knowing it was more than just family parting.
I still tried to stay brave for them
I tried to stay brave for all of us.
If I could run, if I could jump
If I could speak, if I could I would,
But instead I stand waving.
I often fantasise what could have been
What would have been
If I could have.
